For 10€ I got the very last copy of the Gothic 3 "Collector's Edition" available at one of the larger Swedish online shops (right after my order had been processed I noticed that the site automatically marked the product as "expired"). Yes, I already own a very cheap digital version of the game and usually prefer downloads to boxed copies (especially for PC titles)...but when you've spent as much time with a single game as I have with Gothic 3 you kinda want something *physical* to put on your shelf as a tangible and lasting sign of your commitment.

As for the whole "Collector's Edition" thing - which was always a stupid bit of PR nonsense to sully a game box with in the first place - I'd say this particular package is closer to what some hyperbolic publisher miscreants call a "Game of The Year" edition; since it was clearly produced after the initial release of the game (it includes the Forsaken Gods expansion). Besides the game and expansion discs, this CE included a sturdy tin box, a soundtrack CD, a DVD-based "Making Of" video and a map...but curiously no manual. Some publishers have explicitly stated that they won't ever print manuals anymore (stating environmental concerns of all things!), but I don't know if JoWood was one of them or they were just being a bit cheap in this case. Either way, for 10 Euros this was a nice little find which will indeed look good on my gaming shelf.
