Ys Seven (2010) (PSP) (XSEED/Nihon Falcom)
Ys releases here in the West are far and few between, so XSEED's decision to publish Ys Seven is really great news for all fans of traditional action RPGs. This PSP game (the first in the series on that platform) adds a completely new party system which has no parallell in the series 23-year history. Up to three characters (including protagonist Adol) can be in the party at any given moment and the player can instantly switch to active control of any one of them by the press of a button, which makes for some very fast-paced, flexible combat with a stronger tactical element than usual (the party members are suited for defeating different types of enemies etc.).
I'm normally not a big fan of 3D graphics on handhelds but Ys Seven looks pretty good and sports some nicely detailed animations and environments. As always, the music is pretty awesome, too...
