It was another couple years after Chaos Theory when I started on Descent Vignettes for Descent 1. Alongside it, I wanted to release a new multiplayer level but wasn't sure which of the various levels from Vignettes would be suitable to become one. That is when the idea of the Forgotten Fortress came to me. I build the D1 level around the idea that it would later turn into a multiplayer level. I then converted it to Descent 2, added two new hallway connections to better round out the level and removed some grates for greater game flow. For kicks, I added Enemy Within robots (the non-nerfed kind) for Robot Anarchy, for crazy people who like to try that play mode.
