166This is an arrangement of "Destroy the Terrorists in the Occupied City", the first stage BGM from Capcom's arcade/PlayStation game, Strider 2. It has been arranged for native playback on SNES hardware.
The audio was recorded directly from a launch-model SNES deck.
Strider 2 is one of my favorite 2D games of the 32-bit era, and I think it managed to outdo the original game quite handily. It's loud, fast, and obnoxious - just how I like my arcade action games.
From the first time I ever played the game this song has stuck with me. There's something that is quintessentially Capcom about the entire track, not the least of which is the set of samples that the game shares with CPS2 games.
I was pretty surprised to realize just how little memory the original song used in the way of sample data, so I was able to yank the samples with a hex editor to use in my arrangement here. They're hacked up and heavily processed to make them work within the SNES's limits, but I think I managed to keep the character of the original somewhat intact. At least, I hope I did. Once I had the samples, the song itself wasn't terribly complex, and it was easy to track out the composition itself by ear, so... voila, I guess :)

I did an arrangement of this song a few years ago, but I wanted to take a mulligan and try again, and I think it came out much better this time. If you heard the original, I hope you'll agree!
