DEVS Speak on Sandbox, MMR System & Recent Hotfix - Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Here we go:
- First we have a player asking the devs asking if quests are mandatory
because he enjoyed the first mount and blade game and it was completely sandbox.
Devs responded that both the tutorial and main story line is optional and you can skip and ignore both.
Personally i like sandbox too, but i just do the first couple parts of the
story because you can start your own kingdom faster through the main story line. It takes clan tier 4 to start a kingdom without the main story and clan tier 3 with the main story. That being said, the main story at this point isn't hard or much of a story and can be completed very quickly.
- Second we have the same player stating that while you can ignore the
main quest, it is still there and that is not a true sandbox.
The devs respond that they may consider it in the future, but it is not a
priority right now.
- Third we have a player stating that the recent hotfix has ruined clans
being able to play with each other in multiplayer due to auto balance being
fixed.
The devs state that auto balance not working was a bug and it needed to be
fixed, it was not a feature they turned off on purpose. Also that matchmaking still prioritizes a 6 stack of players to play vs another 6 stack of players in captain and skirmisher matches.
Personally i dont play multiplayer, so i cant confirm or deny, but hopefully
it was a good change and that the ability to play with a clan was not
compromised.
- Fourth we have a dev making a statement on a thread that is proposing a better matchmaking system.
The original thread maker states that is a terrible experience when you play
a 6vs6 against a 6 man team and your whole team is solo queued into the game.
The devs state that the current matchmaking system prioritizes matching 6 man team with other 6 man teams, if this criteria cannot be met, then other
players will join the team. This also happens for the skirmisher mode. Dev
also states that a clan system is coming soon to make sure clans can play
against other clans.
Again to me this seems reasonable and this is in a lot of multiplayer team
games where the matchmaking system will prioritize pairing teams against each other unless there isn't enough teams available. Also the clan system sounds fun and we will see how that goes in the future.
- Fifth we have a player making a statement about an MMR system for
bannerlord and that it might not be the best idea because of the lack of
players as of right now.
A developer replies that this has been on their mind and that for it to work,
3 points must be satisfied:
Matching people with similar skills
Matching people fast
Matching different people so they don't play with same people all the time
Some math is done and you can pause it to see the numbers, but in conclusion the MMR system would fluctuate and sometimes you will wait for longer, but play vs people your rank and sometimes you will join a game faster, but the ranks will be out of wack or you will play the same people over and over again. Devs stated that is the the unavoidable issues until the player base grows.
Seems reasonable to me and makes sense. I do not know the multiplayer
numbers but there have been a lot of multiplayer problems and i feel that
those bad experience have caused a lot of players to leave. We might see
a lot of players comeback after a significant multiplayer patch, but we will
see.
- Sixth we have a player stating that even with low numbers, an MMR system will help to at least balance the skill level of players. Lets say 12 player join a 6vs6 as all solo queued and out of the 12, 2 are high elo or highly ranked in the system, then an MMR system will balance the teams and separate these two highly ranked players.
Devs state that this is already done, but not live yet because other features
such as being able to rejoin a match or a fix to the abusable 6vs6 teaming
matches are not where they need to be.
So what it seems like, from my perspective is the devs are waiting on
additional features to be done before releasing a big multiplayer patch.
I think they want this system to work good and effectively bring players in,
so they want to take their time and perfect it.
Lastly i am going to end this video in the same way i ended most update
and dev talk videos, i want to thank the developers for staying active and
bringing good changes.
Also an early access game, if you are playing on the beta, do not expect the
the gameplay to be stable, it is a beta branch meant for play testing and
reporting.
If you would like to play in a stable environment, please play on the stable
live patches of the game.
I have a video on how to revert to a stable patch, link will be down below
if you wish to change back - https://youtu.be/7G4KvZQeLcs
