DFFOO GL - Freya Lufenia Saga #59 - Rematch With Shinryu (COMPLETE)
So this stage in JP was originally a test run for Lufenia+. To be honest, I wasn't sure if they would still run it or leave it untouched for GL (apparently they did make some changes to the fight though?), but here we are anyway. Weirdly, no High Armour Tokens or anything for this one, so if you're having trouble, you can skip this one and all you miss out on is a few Gems. I wasn't sure to count this in the main saga but eh, besides the reward differences and the increase to Lv. 250, it's basically just another Lufenia with no strings attached like in Transcendence or Equinox.
We're back to having a rematch with our very first Lufenia boss, Shinryu, and it is with this that I realise I've actually been doing the Freya Lufenia Saga for a full year. It feels like it's been longer somehow in terms of the game, but yeah, the first Lufenia happened last September, so it's kind of like this fight is a Lufenia anniversary celebration in a way.
That being said, this really is just the same fight as before. The only differences of major note are that it's basically a Lufenia+ so the stats are scaled even higher and the BRV damage and BRV gain reduction is pretty huge. Shinryu will also retaliate if you take too many turns in a row so turn hoggers have to play a bit more carefully if they aren't protected. However if you were able to handle Shinryu the first time, you'll have no trouble here. WoL in particular is still a king here as the original fight featured the debut of his LD so it's designed with him in mind as a strong pick. Personally I could have done without him as Freya's Last Stand would do a lot to protect the party here already so I could have replaced WoL with a damage dealer and done it much faster, but if you've been watching my runs lately, you'll know I just have really loved using WoL since he got his LD boards, especially since I have his HA+ for increasing the party damage caps.
I brought Setzer for similar reasons, I have his HA+ and he does get around the parts where BRV gains are disabled or BRV damage is nulled by allowing the party to hit strong BRV numbers regardless of anything, plus it's a single target fight and on this team his Red Card can hit some really strong numbers. Freya's Cherry Blossom is also really fun on single target fights and she's gonna be hitting in or around 200K with it most of the time with this kind of setup so overall the damage is nicely spread across everyone. Freya was also capping or hitting close to cap with High Jump for the most part so I made a lot of use out of that since the BRV refund was good here. I did bring a CoD friend to speed things up though as I took my time in the first wave just to be safe as this was a blind run.
I was attempting to set up a situation where I called the CoD friend in while the green aura was up so I could delay them and make the purple and blue auras have less time to show up, but I kept messing up the timing and he would switch back to the yellow aura to prevent delays at certain HP thresholds.
Since we are coming to the end of the standard Lufenia era to make way for Lufenia+, I'm not sure if I will be doing this saga for much longer, since Lufenia+ is really quite restrictive for a while so it might become too difficult to run Freya due to the BRV damage/BRV gain reductions not having a lot of counters for a while and I may need to build parties entirely around that, not to mention that the boss HP is going to get bigger still so having loads of HP hits on your entire kit is more of an expectation going forward. I have the characters for it, I just might need all three party slots. However I will still try Freya in the first one and if I can do that one then I will see how things go from there. Regardless, I will be aiming to do the remaining few standard Lufenia anyway, and the only one I worry might be trouble is the next story chapter one, which is the last one IIRC, but I have more options than I do in JP so we will see.
Freya's LD should be launching in JP on September 16th though, and I plan to make some videos in relation to that so there is also a chance I will focus more on JP for a while anyway. I will see how the time and the stages treats me in that regard, I am hitting a point where I could take a long break from Global and come back just fine given how large my roster is, so I may do that soon.
