DFFOO JP - What Can 6 Edgar LD Skills Do? (Crystal Passive U6 Showcase)
I beat my Weekly Lv. 3 Shinryu so I had enough Brilliance Crystals to get the Crystal U6 Passive for my Red Crystal characters. This passive is one of the most interesting to me. What it does is provide +2 LD uses and 20% BRV and HP Damage Limit Up when using the LD Skill, but using your LD skill no longer fills your EX gauge, and you EX gets -20% BRV and HP Damage Limit when used.
So this passive is most useful on characters with either strong LD abilities and weaker EX skills, or generally for characters have some good utility tied to their LD. For Freya, this will provide me with an obvious buff to her kit in that she would have 5 instant jumps to use in strategies where I let the boss have turns, and her LD ability will be a bit stronger now for when she does land during Force Time. Unfortunately, the passive won't apply to abilities tied to the LD, such as Freya's follow-up, so she will still charge her EX with her follow-ups, but will not get the extra damage.
However, a character I feel this passive is a bit of a game changer for is Edgar. The big thing Edgar got out of his BT is an incredibly strong trap that can be stacked to have 2 turns by using both his BT finisher and BT phase before the trap goes off once on an enemy's turn. This means that you would typically want his trap to go off towards the end of your Force Time for maximum damage. This can be a bit awkward to set up though. The best way was typically to use his Burst phase after activating his Force Time, to build up the HP Damage Bonus, and then try to get a turn in after that. But his Burst Phase isn't the strongest, since you have to cycle through a lot of his abilities and they aren't all super damaging.
However, his LD always felt like his strongest ability to me in multi-target fights. And the rework he got with his FR/BT made his LD ability a free, instant turn. With the U6 passive, Edgar gets a total of 6 LD uses (not including one in the Burst Phase). So what he can now do is use his Burst phase right before Force Time, use a Lunafreya LDCA on his next turn, and then start his Force Time. Then do an FR echo. And then on the third turn, he can start spamming his 6 LDs to deal damage and rack up HP Damage Bonus. The 20% BRV and HP Damage Limit Up will also make this stronger than cycling through his skills in his Burst Phase. Then at the very end, he can use his BT finisher and other characters can FR Echo chain to the next enemy turns. And then, big kaboom. Potentially twice.
I pushed the enemies a little too far back here so I didn't get to show two detonations of the trap on both enemies, but this strategy led to me doing so much damage that I defeated the bosses anyway.
I'm looking forward to seeing what other characters can potentially do with this passive, and it will be fun to continue pursuing different passives. I will continue building up the Red Crystal Passives for now as there are some that will be interesting for Freya for me, but also for other characters too.
