DFFOO [JP][Act 3 Ch9 Pt1] Lunafreya, spawner of free turns with Sherlotta and the Sorceress's Knight
18Probably one of, if the most interesting and new support character that has comes out recently. Extremely flexible and fun to play. There are so many character combos and applications you can do with her.
Also am I detecting a Rinoa BT in the second half of the monthly block? Would be great if I can lucksack that when Cor comes out.
Not sure if I missed anything, but my preliminary diagnosis is that there is a bug making her HP+ to have no effect whatsoever before using her LD. (no extra HP dump)
For your reference, because I am poor, Lunafreya here is only BT+2 (FL 30, HA+3), so her damage would go up by a large margin once she can equip UW.
Boss info: Ultimecia + Coeurl
Ultimecia does the FA, you must defeat both to win.
Both bosses are immune to launches. While Kam still works, don't expect the usual FR bonuses.
Force Mechanics:
40/60/80: Bosses' ATK Up with Action Delay Down (stronger as FG increases)
FA: Apocalypse++
Guaranteed hit, break recovery + BRV gain + HP attack that sets all player BRV to 0
FT: 2 turns
As bosses attack, deleting targeted player character turns
Weakness: Ice aspected FA
Threshold Mechanics + Normal attacks:

Ultimecia casts Hell's Judgement that cuts all player BRV to 0.
This attack is only a "gravity" BRV attack with no HP dump. She does not absorb the cut BRV either.
At 20/50/80%:
Ultimecia would turn warp (with 2 free turns afterwards) to the front even in off turns, boosting recast guage back to full to cast Apocalypse.
Apocalypse allows her to junction to Griever, thus reducing action delay to 0 for more consecutive turns.
After this, she typically cycles through Hell's judgement, Shockwave Pulsar (ST HP attack with a weird gust of wind animation) and Holy (BRV only).
The Coeurl is mostly a nuisance (Paralysis, dispel non-framed buffs) than an actual threat.
General Strat in this run:
The most dangerous thing is Hell's judgement setting your BRV to 1 and then she breaks you with Shockwave Pulsar, dealing heavy HP dmg to your hurt characters.
My suggestion is to get field turn BRV battery/ WoL shield or Caius CA Doom to auto-break consecutive turn warps. Then delay with Seifer.
The irony is that the Sorceress's Knight's debuff actually stops her from getting BRV and becoming a threat. It is possible to take back to back hits
About Lunafreya:
On the most basic level, Lunafreya is stacked with various party auras, stat boosts (BRV dmg/HP dmg/BRV gain even). Not only her presence but also her given buffs to allies. Even her C88 gives your more BRV dmg due to weakness dmg, as she conveniently happens to be an enchanter as well.
Imperil/Enchant/FR:
Her base kit up to LD already party enchants ice and apply water/ice imperil. Her FR "forcefully" enchants your other allies with water , Lulu LD style (still enchants water if aspected and if it is water aspected already, potency increases).
This makes her FR one of the most ally friendly to use. You can satisfy both condition very easily (water command = 20%; ice command = 20% on turn pass). Just beware that if your attack is aspected already, the ice enchant would not work.
Also a 3rd condition says 20% if an ally does an action that buff others. (e.g. if Ashe uses HP+, you can get 60+X%)
This key point suggests that should you find someone that constantly buff others as they attack, they may be an even more optimal choice for her FR.
Also her S1 is a heal/battery only skill, so she can be a FG charger/bonus builder as well (imagine her with Braska lol).
Her LD mechanic:
Without using her LD, as she moves (including CAs), she builds up staff stacks up to 4. Once it is 4, you can choose to give a swiftness buff or a heavy hitter buff to an ally (can't be herself).
They both give BRV/HP dmg up (heavy hitter has more), but the main difference is swiftness give your ally free turns + 1 free skill, while heavy hitter gives you a Leo LD effect (10% HP dmg extra dump on each HP dump).
Like Ashe's Queen's order, this buff cannot be extended but can get +1 turn if it is applied when her BT is active.
Positional relevance only comes into play when you use her LD attack. On use, it grants whoever on the right the swiftness buff, heavy hitter on the left and Luna gets both buffs. Not only does this restore her S1/S2 uses, it also gives her free skills, so spam away with her S1!
The buffs are mutually inclusive. You can use her LD and BRV+/HP+.to give both to allies.
In this run by putting Seifer on the right with swiftness, he can repeatedly burst delay the bosses. Taking advantage of Sherlotta's 999,999 cap, the heavy hitter generates a lot more extra dmg.
The possibilities are exciting to explore. Picture so many turns and delays if you put Garland with a launcher with swiftness on; putting heavy hitter on off-turn dmg dealers so it does not wear off etc. The fact that you can do both on the fly according to your heart's desire is what makes her such an insanely flexible and fun character to use.
