Thanos sitting down after he loses is in reference to a past quote he said! During ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ we see Thanos giving a speech in front of Loki, talking about loss. He says that he knows what it is like to lose and how the feeling of loss turns your legs into jelly. This is why when Thanos is eventually defeated by the Avengers in Endgame, he takes a look around at everything and upon realising he has lost the battle, he takes a seat, probably as his legs had the same feeling of jelly.
