https://www.patreon.com/ulillillia --- Utlizing PCSX2, I have access to features like fast forward and save states that drastically speeds up the process of item perfection, so much so that I can easily do it with just about any legendary item. I've written a guide on GameFAQs for how to perfect items on the actual PS2; on emulator, things are different, especially with fast forward and save states available. Like, gone is the need for Q&R (quit and reload), save states take up that role and are significantly faster to use. Gone is the need for having to wait so much for loading as well or for the character to move to their destination, thanks to fast forwarding, further speeding up otherwise lengthy processes. What would normally take 15 minutes on the PS2 takes about 30 seconds, if not less. Within 1 minute, I can check 20 mystery rooms!
I start out by showing what I'm currently working on (a legendary excalibur (rank 39 sword)) then I go into that item. I rush the first 9 floors, but, on the 1, 4, and 7, I force a mystery room with the next floor by save stating just before selecting the dimension gate. Once forced, I save state just before selecting the mystery room. I first scan what's available in the immediate vicinity of the mystery room options, delaying entry after each failed attempt by about 3 frames or so. (The RNG updates once every frame but keeping that kind of precision is difficult.) I attempt to get a great luck within 20 attempts. If I don't, I use any of the +3s (good luck or the ambush).
If I use the fortune teller, I check the equipment of it and the dimension guide. If there's something of some interest, I initiate combat by speaking to the fortune teller 4 times. The dimension guide is just extra exp (attacking it, robbing it, etc. will make its yellow HP bar become red, making you have to defeat it in addition to the fortune teller).
When I reach a boss floor (any multiple of 10), I defeat at least the boss then, sometimes, I include something else with it for leveling purposes, but I make sure to gency out in the end without clearing the floor. After a brief bit of stuff back at town, I save then return to clear the boss floor to get an exit. On PS2, getting the exit is not practical because it takes 3 to 8 minutes to clear the floor and you've only got a 10% chance of a chicken (50% chance of a town, 20% for the chicken itself). Save states allow the acquisition of an exit and, on top of that, making getting the chicken about 50 times as fast. Double defeating the item boss grants a lot of additional bonus. Having the item filled with a bunch of specialists also grants extra bonus on top of that - just remember that, when the item king is defeated, add an additional specialist of that type. I've gathered weak specialists for this sole purpose and use fists in the warehouse to store them and readily see what's in them and, being fists, seeing them first thing.
Toward the end, I wanted to show my effectively invincible dreadnaught. It's immune to everything except poison and geo effects, and it heals far more than it can take in damage thanks to the near-perfected cosmos muscle (I had to stop at floor 90 so I could spawn a lover - get it then I can finish the true perfection.).
Unexpectedly, in this, I ended up getting the gate pirates not once but twice, and consecutively on top of that. The hyper mystery room is fairly different from the normal mystery room. It's limited to only 4 possible rooms: the hospital (junk), department store (mostly junk), 3 unguarded treasure chests (junk), or a fortune teller that only gives good or great luck. All others don't show up. Thus, I force a great luck as it's a lot faster.
I mix in reincarnating the dreadnaught as well then do 5 clears of Cave of Ordeals 4 to relevel it. I then return to the item and begin using the thief to destroy enemies, since I really need to level it up, as hinted at by the steal chance being between but not including 1 and 99 when facing the front. Only through item world do I have any worthwhile ways of leveling up.
Notice the huge number of legendary satan's motors and infernal armors. They are the most common legendary items I can pick up. The king (rank 39 magic monster weapon) and the infernal staff (rank 39 staff) are the hardest ones to pick up. Using the "merchant" mystery room once I've picked up 100 bonus levels, I can utilize save states to speed up getting those, but the RNG seems less updated, resulting in the same stuff showing up more often, making quarter second incements the better option, updating the save state once it gets out to 2 seconds for the check delay.
One problem I have is that I don't know how to get rid of the jittering. It's caused by interlacing and PCSX2 doesn't seem to have a way to force it to be progressive scan mode.
