Final Fantasy 12 - using save/load states to boost MP
https://www.patreon.com/ulillillia --- One major advantage of emulators is the use of save states. This can be used to significantly speed up some tasks. One such task is optimizing the HP/MP gains at level up. In my case, I'm only after MP. With true perfection, you can get about 400 more HP and 50 more MP compared to just plain average. Average is about 290 MP and about 5500 HP. 50 more on the 290 MP is a rather massive 18% compared to the 400 more on 5500 for just 7%. Of course, because you can't possibly know if that's 213.65 or 213.1, as both display the same, it's best and easiest to assume the minimum maximum.
Levels 1 to 10 are the 3-5 zone for MP growth. That is, you will get either 3, 4, or 5 "points". This is multiplied by the character's growth rate, which, for Fran, is 0.55 (also Penelo). Levels 11 through 29 are the 4-7 zone (you will get either 4, 5, 6, or 7 points), 30 through 43 are the 5-9 zone, 44 through 60 are another 4-7 zone, 61 to 80 are another 3-5 zone, 81 to 90 is a 2-3 zone, and 91 to 99 is just straight out 1 point only. If you want to focus on HP growth, the best time is during levels above 80 where the MP growth is very minimal. HP is done differently and is more complex.
This video walks you through the process on how I do it. I start at level 25 and get to 32 then jump ahead to 42 where I get 43 then 44 as it's at the transition points, the major ones. Toward the end, I get some rather funny things going on, such as hitting a humbaba with reflect status so I get its protect status. Another case is where I target an enemy with reflect status with esuna to get rid of poison status on my character. I make various other goofy remarks throughout.
I utilize Mosphoran for the earliest levels because, with a maximillian (chain elvorets at Necrohol of Nabudis using the path clearing method to get some) or grand armor (chain helvinek via the teleporting enemy glitch method to get some), the Mosphoran enemies are completely harmless aside from the python giving poison status. The zodiac spear is obtained in the center zone of Necrohol of Nabudis just north of the central part of it, but only if you avoided 3 (or 4) chests. I typically don't count the chests in Phon Coast because I always get the zodiac spear well before I even see that area. Thus, it's the chest in front of Old Dalan's place, the palace cellar (just avoid any chests there anyway as they're of such low value), and the prison where you get your stuff back shortly after the brawl scene. Bone helm is obtained by stealing it from the python. Winged helm is from chaining slime in Zertinan Caverns (via the "junk enemies along the way" method). Hermes Sandals is obtained from the Bazaar by selling 15 arcana (chain dustia via handing it a phoenix down at the slowest battle speed with the warmage monograph (read the hunt board 20 times)) and 33 gyshal greens (complete all available hunts at the time Vaan is alone for his last time then buy them at the clan shop). By being HP critical, damage is doubled and I don't have to keep healing or regen active after a level up to keep optimal damage. This is due to the adrenaline license, but it's only worth doing once a maximillian or grand armor is obtained. It's also useful with utilizing the balance spell as, with spell breaker, the success rate is doubled and it hits hard (bubble status makes it hit twice as hard, which you can get by clearing all but 2 of the hunts available right after obtaining the dawn shard).
