Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade longplay on an arcade exclusive shmup, 1944: The Loop Master. This is part 1 of 2 in this longplay.

Description of the game:

1944: The Loop Master is a vertical scrolling bulletstorm shmup and the fifth and final mainline entry in the 194X series developed by Eighting-Raizing and published by Capcom in arcades on the CPS-II arcade system in June 2000, making it the first and only game not to be developed by Capcom themselves. This is the second collaboration effort between Capcom and Eighting-Raizing, after Great Mahou Daisakusen/Dimahoo. It didn't get any home ports until the release of Capcom Arcade Stadium in 2021. Dragonfly, an enemy from Son Son, makes an appearance here again after its first appearance in 1943: The Battle Of Midway, Holstein, a cartoonish cow item that appeared in both 1943: The Battle Of Midway and 1943 Kai, as well as Mobi-chan, a chibi-style version of Mobilesuit Alpha from Side Arms: Hyper Dyne, appearing here as a bonus item again. This is the first game to feature the Mitsubishi A6M Zero as a playable fighter rather than a recurring enemy from the previous installments.

The game's story takes its roots back to the Pacific Front of World War II after the departure from 19XX: The War Against Destiny. The world was in the midst of a big war. A terrorist group had advanced in the creation of powerful mechanical weapons in hopes of reaching the pole of completion. Souls kept fighting, seeking for a naval battlefield at the Southern Ocean, but ended lost forever. As hope seemed to be lost, 2 powerful planes charge forth into battle, the Lockheed P-38 Lightning (Player 1) and Mitsubishi A6M Zero (Player 2). Now, a new battle begins...

The game plays similarly to its predecessors. Unlike 19XX however, it plays similarly to the earlier titles. Players choose between taking control of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning or the Mitsubishi A6M Zero and traverse across 15 stages. While flying across each stage, players must shoot down all enemies that appear on-screen. Destroying a formation of color coded enemies will yield different power-ups including shot upgrades (orange formation), POW vitality (green formation) and Tomahawk Missile bombers (red formation). Collecting items from some enemies like some large aircraft or ground targets yield gold items. Once 10 are collected, a golden fighter will appear, when destroyed will give players wingmen. More can be collected by repeating the process. Whenever a wingman is destroyed, a new one will replace it depending on how much the player collects. Using Tomahawk Missile bombers gives players temporary invincibility upon activation, and if a player runs out of them, wingmen can be sacrificed to inflict damage on enemies. A new feature is the charge attack that is activated by holding the shot button until the guage is full. Once released, the shots become more powerful and makes the player invincible as they rise high and shoot below them. At the end of each stage, players come face to face with a large boss, which they must destroy before the invisible timer expires, which if it does, the boss will leave before the player can possibly get a chance to finish them off. Upon clearing each stage, the player's performance, such as destruction rate, gold collected, etc. will be displayed. Players must keep an eye on their fuel guage displayed at the top of the screen. If the player makes contact with an enemy or projectile, the fuel gauge depletes. If they take damage while the fuel guage is at zero, the ship will be destroyed. They will then be given a limited amount of time to get powered-up upon continuing the game.

Are you brave enough to endure this long, intense and brutal war?
