4Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade beat em up longplay on one of Capcom's arcade hits, The Punisher.
Description of the game:
The Punisher is a horizontal scrolling beat em up by Capcom released in arcades in April 1993 on Capcom's CPS Dash system (the third game overall to run on the system board) board featuring characters from the Marvel Comics Universe. It was then ported over on the Sega Genesis in the US in December 1994 and in April 1995 in Europe. No re-releases were made. This marked Capcom's very first partnership with Marvel Comics, followed by the Marvel VS Capcom series.
The urbanized area of New York City was filled with nothing but crime, stalking the streets anytime and any place. One day at Central Park, Frank Castle enjoyed picnic with his family. Moments later, they would unexpectedly run into a mob killing incident. Fearing any witnesses, the killers gunned down Frank's family. To avenge his family's deaths, and all others like them, Frank becomes the anti-hero vigilante, The Punisher, and swears vengeance against the Kingpin and his evil mob, working alongside Nick Fury.
The game plays just like most of Capcom's other beat em ups. Players take control of The Punisher (Player 1) or Nick Fury (Player 2) and traverse across 6 stages filled with enemies who will try and stop them. In similar fashion to other Capcom beat em ups, players make use of some melee attacks that damage the enemies, including the standard 4 hit combo, pressing the forward direction for the final hit will knock enemies at a distance. Going up close will allow you to knee your enemy or throw them around on the ground or into other enemies, damaging them in the process. Jumping up while holding an enemy and pressing down and the attack button will perform an Izuna drop (press down while you're at the arc of your jump will perform a faster and more damaging Izuna drop). During waves where armed enemies appear, you will switch to your own firearms (pistols with unlimited ammunition) and attack them back, including other enemies without any firearms. Defeating some enemies will drop weapons, food or bonus items. Each weapon has limited use indicated on the side of the screen.Your secondary weapon is a hand grenade, which is either thrown while airborne, or if you have zero health left. Players can perform a mega crash attack which sweeps enemies off the ground, but at the cost of some of your health being depleted. Taking damage will reduce your health, and taking damage with very low health or at zero health results in dying and resetting your hand grenade count back to 4.
