Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade shmup longplay on one of the few bullet hell games of the mid 2000's, Mushihimesama.

Description of the game:

Mushihimesama (known in English as Bug Princess) is an insect themed vertical scrolling bullet hell shmup developed by CAVE (Computer Art Visual Entertainment) and published by AMI in arcades in October 2004, exclusively in Japan. The game received 2 updated versions including Blue Label version in December 2006 and version 1.5 in May 2011, It was later published on PlayStation 2 by Taito in July 2005 and August 2006 (limited edition), both only in Japan, on iOS in December 2011 worldwide, in May 2012 on XBOX 360 in Japan, on Microsoft Windows in November 2015 and the final re-release on Nintendo Switch in June 2017.

Taking place in a fictional landscape full of lush forests inhabited by large arthropods called Koujuu, large oversized insects capable of surviving due to their hardened shells, and can leave behind vegetation to grow whenever they die in their natural cycle of life and death. However, a life-force they contain known as the Levi-Sense is known to be poisonous to human lifeforms to the point of being named Miasma and only certain human settlements were spared to live, one of them being Hoshifuri Village. A 15 year old princess within that village named Reco, a young daughter of the royal family, was next in line to receive a special bracelet from a mysterious boy who happens to be her childhood friend Aki. The bracelet grants her immunity to the contamination in the air. But, it also turns out her friend Aki was also the leader of the Koujuu. As a task to save the village, Reco is forced with no choice but to fight him and all the Koujuu forces, alongside her pet golden rhinoceros beetle, Kiniro

The game plays similar in the veins of other CAVE shmups such as Dodonpachi, Ketsui and Espgaluda, but without second loop after meeting certain requirement and all of the enemies resemble insects such as beetles, butterflies, ladybugs, Players control Reco and Kiniro across 5 difficult stages. Before starting the game, players must make a choice between 3 difficulty modes and 3 different starting shot types. Each difficulty mode affects both enemy attack patterns and their shot speed.
Original Mode: The game's easy difficulty with enemies shooting fast bullets, but simpler attack patterns.
Maniac Mode: Enemies shoot slower bullets, but the attack patterns are denser compared to Original Mode.
Ultra Mode: The game's hardest difficulty mode with faster bullet speeds and much harder attack patterns than Maniac Mode.
As you destroy enemies, they yield gems, which gradually increase the score. A certain enemy will yield power-ups such as bombs that inflict big amounts of damage and cancels out every bullet, shot power-ups, that upgrades the player's weapons and a maximum of 4 options that increase firepower. There are 2 types:
Formation: Options spread out or close in depending on which shot button is pressed and shoot enemies.
Trace: Options follow the player's movement and shoot down enemies, in a similar fashion to Konami's Gradius. The main shot button has them move to where the player is and the secondary shot button allows them to stay in place when the player stays still, useful for when enemies are far from the player's position.
Since the game is difficult, the player must memorize the small hitbox that can allow them to weave through any gaps between bullets if possible, but still take caution of the visible bullet patterns. Should Kiniro take a hit from enemy fire or touch any aerial enemies, Kiniro will be destroyed, causing Reco to fall.

The fate to save Hoshifuri Village from the reluctant Koujuu forces is in your hands.
