Findlestick suggested escaping the training room, so I did it. This feat is only possible thanks to the training room being semi-spherical, so that infinite glide at high enough speeds towards the angled walls (plus some fidgeting about) actually pushes you through the floor of the room. However, too much momentum and you hit some death collision instead and get a softlock. It's a bit finicky trick to pull off.

But the good part is that now Minus World can be done at theoretically any level where there's a Divinity Statue. But the bad part is that Minus World might never come in handy in a speedrun, due to immense flying distances for example, or the fact that activating triggers from here usually softlocks the game and does nothing useful. But the good part is that the glitch still carries some untested potential, not to mention it's cool to look at.

Interestingly, if you escape the main menu training room, upon hitting death collision the game doesn't give you a softlock - instead Dante bona fide dies. Pretty pathetic if you think about it, getting a game over in the training area, a place of safety where you're never supposed to die. Out of curiosity I chose to "continue" to see where the game would throw Dante afterwards... I basically got that glitched, visually endless loading screen again. Gameplay continued behind it, with Dante falling down to some chasm repeatedly and eventually dying again. Pretty mysterious.

By the way, I also tested purchasing stuff while in Minus World, and so far it looks like everything works like normal with your transactions.
