Doom 2's pwad "Epic 2" level 23 my play video

Pwad: Epic 2
Skill: Ultra-Violence
Time: 11:10
Map: 23
Name: Oasis
Category: UV-Fast

Like this map's title, the atmosphere is oasis in the desert. You might feel that oasis takes you a break and relaxing, but this map gives you a forcible assault from many enemies instead. The map was one of the most difficult maps which I had marked in the wad before I started the play through. I moved around the whole map with three mega spheres in the early stage of the map while I was avoiding herds of enemies, and I dealt with them after I got enough weapons and ammo.

The main area which was opened by a switch the first mega sphere's room has a lot of enemies. It was impossible to kill them as I stayed in the mega sphere's room because I had only a shotgun and a rocket launcher with few ammo. After I killed two arch-viles in the both sides of the entrance, I moved quickly to a stair to the second mega sphere with picking up a SSG on the way. Demons could not go up the stair, so I managed to take a small breath when I went through a side of a baron and dealt with it and a chaingunner. However, it was enough hard until I reached there. I got some ammo with the second mega sphere, then I was able to kill demons from the stair one-sidedly.

To get the third mega sphere was the hardest phase in the map and I could not remember how many times I died there. When I came down from a high floor where a plasma rifle was placed to a middle floor, I was usually blocked by imps in the middle floor. I had expected that these imps were killed by infighting, but it didn't happen well, so I used a few rockets to them when I moved to a SSG. The threats of going down the middle floor were not only imps but also enemies in the low floor, like hell knights and mancubi. They swarmed round walls and aimed me. You might think the time for going down the middle floor was only an instant, but it was enough time for them on fast monsters to attack me. After I reached the middle floor, I sometimes died of homing missiles when I have a trouble dealing with the rest of imps. This point really annoyed me.

Some enemies teleported after I got a BFG. The point had seemed to be not hard when I tested the map, but I often died there for some reason. I got the BFG behind from a vile, but I wasn't able to kill it before its attack. When I left a square in the BFG, revenants appeared there. I wanted to kill the vile preferably but revenants and cacodemons were so trouble. Their behaviors were too random for me to deal with them accurately. I was attacked by them from both sides, and I couldn't use the BFG effectively because they didn't at all gather easily. Finally, I attacked them from an upper floor in a blue key, excluding the vile. Certainly I wasted several seconds, but it was safe and efficient for BFG's damage.

In summary, I was prepared for the map after I selected the wad, but the BFG area was unexpectedly hard. Although I spent much hours for the map and I was exhausted by it, the map is my favorite map in the third episode so far.
