Doom 2's pwad "Epic 2" level 28 my play video

Pwad: Epic 2
Skill: Ultra-Violence
Time: 24:19
Map: 28
Name: Ogdoad
Category: UV-Fast

This is the longest map in the wad. The structure of the map is very complex and there are some puzzles. In previous considerably hard maps, the difficulty of them exponentially increased with -fast parameter, but the difficulty of the map didn't extremely rise on fast in spite of one of the hardest maps. It meant that the map for only proportionally increasing from original UV was as hard as them because the map on UV itself was very difficult.

In the first half, you go to the inner part of the map for getting a blue key, then you access the blue key's door and get a yellow key. You have to go to the blue key's door for the yellow key and the red key several times, but there are only two accessible routes for it and they were so inconvenient. Enough ammo didn't exist in the early stage but the cyber demon was so helpful. Recovery items also were limited, so blast damage of its missile was even dangerous. After I passed the point, I advanced towards the latter part smoothy. The route was pretty clear when I only a little checked the map. You might have already gotten lost when you have played this map first time because of its complex structure, but there is the most troublesome puzzle in the latter part.

After I opened the yellow key's door, there are three arch-viles which didn't move. They were released when each switch was pushed, then they teleported to respective points instantly and they would resurrect enemies. I wanted to deal with them before teleports for preventing them from doing it. A reliable way for killing a vile by one attack was only blast damage of BFG with close range, but the timing was so severe. An enemy usually doesn't attack quickly after it noticed a player even on fast monsters, but it usually made a counterattacks quickly if it receives an attack. I was steadily able to take a vile a BFG's blast damage after I hit some bullets in chaingun to it, though I recevied vile's attack without blast damage. When you push three switches in front of viles, all black skulls in the whole map change to red skulls and they can be pushed as switches. You can get a red key as you push all switches but it was not at all easy to find them. Probably you saw some of them until you reached here at the first play of this map, but can you remember them exactly. When I played this map first time, I wandered around the map in search of switches and I spent much time for it. A certain switch was pushed, then a lot of chaingunners appeared. It was really tricky because my health gradually decreased too much. I relaxed the hard situation by making enemies after the red key, including the cyberdemon, kill some of them by infighting. However, my health ususally was very low when all of them were dead.

By the way, my target was below 30 min but it was a pretty rough estimate. This run is still very slow for survival, and it is probably the most cautious in my runs of this epic 2's playthrough. I think the result itself is good.
