Doom 2's pwad "Epic 2" level 16 my play video

Pwad: Epic 2
Skill: Ultra-Violence
Time: 8:59
Map: 16
Name: DNA Replicate
Category: UV-Fast

You entered a wrong teleport in the space base, so you took a roundabout route after all, but you managed to return to the space base. This map is one of the most difficult maps in the middle episode, but there are many shells and not few rockets from the early stage of this map. You have enough weapons and ammo to fight against enemies, unlike map 15. This map therefore would have been not so hard if I had killed all enemies in my sight before I had gotten a next key or gone to a next room. Specifically, three arch-viles after a blue key were very tricky, so I could have dealt with them easily if all enemies had been dead. However, I can get a BFG after getting three keys and there are many cells in the later part. If I had used the route, I would have consumed a lot of cells inefficiently by a plasma rifle and, moreover, I would have entered the exit with enough cells left. Needless to say, the way was just a last resort because it was far from the fastest way. For the reason, I wanted to get a BFG preferentially with aiming monster-infighting, but the route was extremely hard.

First of all, vile's attacks were not avoidable easily. This map's passage tended to be long and straight, so I couldn't occasionally hide from a vile's sight quickly. An enemy in the passage often prevented me from avoiding it. I was hunted by a vile many times when I move from the blue key's room to the blue key's switch. Secondarily, demons blocked me frequently. Demons ran about in the whole map quickly and freely and they appeared unexpectedly. I couldn't sometimes avoid vile's attack, revenant's missiles, and cyber's missiles for them. Finally, I didn't easily find the way to get the BFG safely. On original UV, you just go to the BFG's room soon. You probably get a BFG and kill three viles before they attack you, but, on fast monsters, you will take triple vile's attack even if you can get it. It was not easy to lead them to the outside of the room because a vile attacks you quickly on fast when it sees you and many revenants also obstruct you. What is a good way? After a lot of attempts, I noticed that only the three viles were active when I fired in the room after the blue key's switch, so I made them enter the room as I hid a pillar. They were away from the BFG's room completely and I was able to get it safely.

I managed to get a BFG, then what do I do next? I was usually low health with less armor. At first I therefore escaped from the room soon and pick up a blue armor and some recovery items. After I improved my states, I started to deal with the rest of enemies. The strategy looked correct for me, but it was a worse way. Many viles were still alive and many corpses existed in the stage. They resurrected a lot of enemies without discrimination, so the fight for exterminating enemies was bogged down. It was very hard not only to get below 10 min which was my target but also to survive myself. After more attempts, I found that it was not at all hard to fight against a herd of revenats/viles soon after I got a BFG. In addition, two or three viles which teleported after the res key or the blue key generally came to the room. I was able to significantly reduce the number of vile in the map, so the rest of fight was going smoothly.

For such reasons, the strategy for getting the BFG and after getting the BFG were not decided easily, so I spent much time for this map. However, I'm satisfied with the record which was not only under 10 min but also under 9 min.
