Doom 64 Gameplay -No Commentary- | Hyperkin 3-In-1 HDTV Cable |
Doom 64 is more popular today than it was first released on the N64. Not to say it wasn't among N64 gamers at the time, but it was overshadowed by games like Turok, and, later that same year, Goldeneye.
For me, this was my first actual Doom game I ever played, never owning a PC growing up, and never playing any of the previous console ports of Doom. I thought this was a port of Doom, because I didn't have internet, nor any gaming magazine subscriptions yet either. Nowadays we have a wrold of information at our fingertips at any moment, but back then, it was OK to live in blissful ignorance knowing that you just didn't know.
The first actual version of the original Doom I would ever play years later was the 32X version, because I managed to Score a 32X with a box of games for $12 on ebay in the early 2000's. I would later acquire the PC version, PS1 Version, and Snes version.
Doom 64 is a well made Doom game for the N64. Midway did a great job on the game, making the environments fully polygonal, and remaking the enemy sprites, and adding the moody, ambient soundtrack of the PS1's Doom: Custom PlayStation Edition. This is an excellent Doom game that was underappreciated at the time, but has been vindicated in recent years.
