Forgive my poor playing, I've never been good at NiGHTS, but I still really enjoy playing it. NiGHTS was one of the most beloved Sega Saturn games, and as such it was one of the most popular among Saturn gamers. Sega released this remastered version of the game digitally to the Xbox 360, PS3, and Steam which is the version I am playing here.

The gameplay in the game is hard to describe, you fly around a NiGHTS to collect Blue spheres with which to destroy Ideya captures and regain Ideya spheres which are taken from you at the beginning of each level by creatures known as Nightmaren. You start with a 120 second timer with which to traverse the course as NiGHTS to try and destroy the Ideya captures. If you run out of time, you are transformed back into one of the kids, and still have to collect blue orbs and destroy the Ideya captures on foot in a 3D platfomrer type of level. There are also ways to score big points in each level, and you are graded on your performance.

That is a quick, and inadequate explanation of this game, because it's one of those games that is just so unique, you pretty much have to just play it yourself. The game goes from a 3D plane to a 2.5D Plane on the fly. It was a unique, early 3D game, and it is still beloved by Saturn gamers for good reason. The Saturn never got a true 3D Sonic game, outside of a small 3D area in Sonic Jam, so NiGHTS sort of filled that gap for Saturn gamers. Sonic Team never gave them the 3D Sonic they wanted, but they did give them NiGHTS.
