Doom Eternal is a first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks.
Two years after the events of 2016's Doom, Earth has been overrun by demonic forces under the now-corrupted Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC), wiping out 60% of the planet's population. The Doom Slayer, having previously been teleported to an unknown location, returns to Earth with a new arsenal of weapons and a satellite fortress controlled by former UAC AI VEGA to quell the demonic invasion by killing the Hell Priests, three powerful magicians who work for the Khan Maykr, an angelic being who plans to sacrifice Earth so that her own realm, Urdak, may continue to exist. The Slayer kills priest Deag Nilox in New York, but the Khan Maykr teleports the two remaining priests to unknown locations, forcing the Slayer to continue searching.
After retrieving a celestial locator from the Sentinel world of Exultia, the Slayer retrieves a power source and a magic dagger from a fallen Sentinel called "The Betrayer", who was deceived by the demons and exiled after making a deal that would prolong his son's life. VEGA directs the Slayer to a citadel in the Arctic where the second Hell Priest has taken refuge; the Slayer retrieves his Super Shotgun and defeats the Priest's guardian Doom Hunters before beheading him.
The Khan Maykr moves the final Priest to a secure location and accelerates the invasion of Earth, forcing the Slayer to destroy the Super Gore Nest in central Europe where the invasion began. In order to find the last priest, Vega directs the Slayer to find Dr. Samuel Hayden who may know where the priest is hiding. Heading to a secure UAC facility, the Slayer retrieves Hayden’s mangled robotic body and the Crucible, which Hayden kept for the Slayer. On Hayden's advice (and against his warnings), the Slayer travels to the Phobos base, where he uses a massive BFG cannon to blast a hole in Mars to the ancient city of Hebeth.
A portal in the city takes the Slayer to Sentinel Prime, where he discovers the final Priest in a gladiatorial arena. On his way to confront the Priest, the Slayer experiences flashbacks of his past. After the events of Doom 64, the Slayer - then known as "Doomguy" - elected to remain in Hell to keep the demons from returning to Earth. Wounded from a previous battle, he found his way to Sentinel Prime, where he proved his worth to the Maykrs in gladiatorial combat and was granted a place in the Night Sentinels after warning them of the demonic invasion. The Slayer was granted superhuman strength and speed by a rogue Maykr, and was sealed in Hell once again after the Khan Maykr and the Priests became corrupted by Hell's energy, leading to him being captured by the demons and discovered by the UAC. In the present, the Slayer kills the final Priest's guardian, but is warned that he will be ostracized from the Sentinels if he kills the Priest on Sentinel grounds. Unfazed, the Slayer blows the Priest's head off and teleports back to his fortress as other Sentinels attempt to confront him.
