DOOM II: 1Monster (UV Playthrough) [PC] - MAP13: Workin' On The Chaingang
This is a massive shame. What a waste. An absolute waste.
For a map as wonderfully crafted as this one, the fact that it's used this way in a gimmick WAD like this is just painful to realise, moreso with the chosen adversary; almost 10 minutes of hosing down nothing but swarms of Chaingunners. "What's wrong with that? They're not that tough!", you may be thinking. Well, sadly it's nowhere near as fun or challenging as it sounds. It just drags.
I really can't fault the layout or detail involved (stupid secret trigger made of slimefalls aside), but the sheer volume of the bastard denizens just ruins the experience, because it slows things to a crawl in more than a few sections -- run in, hit a switch/pick up a key, take cover and spend a minute or so to gun down the incoming legion of bozos.
Rinse, repeat.
Sometimes, less really is more. Reducing the monster count by even 25% would have kept things flowing at a much better pace, especially during the 'ambush' moments.
Oh well, at least the next map's a much better ride.
