(Doom II) Eviternity 2: Map 10 - Incinerate (UV-Max) [w/ Commentary]
This and next week i'm gonna be catching up to where I should be (Map 33 this week I believe). I am super far behind after exams have been a huge priority as well as the holiday i took to clear my head of exams. Now that i'm feeling a lot more refreshed and less burnt out, I can get back to posting demos and videos!
About this map. At the beginning of the video I was really unsure how I saw the map. I thought the fight that connects both parts of the map was an absolute thrill, especially with the sniper cyber. With all this buildup you'd think the final fight would be a tough cookie.
But no, the final fight in my opinion was a little disappointing. A horde of zombiemen is a pretty unusual way to end a map, considering a lot of the previous fights had several scary enemies that attack you. It sets the tone that the map is basically done and that there's not much more to it. I guess there has to be a cap in the difficulty due to it only being the second episode, but maps like 07 and 08 weren't really afraid to throw tricky scenarios at you. You can tell how much it bummed me out due to the amount i'm writing for this section.
However, there were also several good things about the map I would also like to address. The MIDI for one is absolutely incredible and definitely in my top 5 for the whole of Eviternity 2. And the map itself is absolutely gorgeous, the light visuals, the arena-like setting that is split between luscious caves, it almost brings a sense of reality to the map.
Overall, it's quite an interesting finisher to the second episode. Personally I wish the final fight had a bit more meat to it, but maybe gluttony has taken it's toll after the slaughter of map 32. In other words, this map is great!
