Source Port: DSDA-Doom

This map is actually kind of irritating. Even on a continuous run you have to explore it fully to stock up for the big enemy mobs, so it’s one of the longer maps.

It’s not all hard though, because there’s a few things on your side. One is that there’s a lot of ammo and even a rocket launcher and BFG, so you do get pretty well prepared. Infighting is also a very useful tactic here, especially in the outdoor area where you find the BFG, since there’s a big variety of different enemies you can pit against each other.
The most important thing though is a little engine quirk exclusive to vanilla Doom 2 and source ports that try to closely emulate it. If there are 21 or more Lost Souls already in a map, the Pain Elemental can’t spawn any more. Considering there’s several Pain Elementals in this map, usually found in pairs, this is a big deal. They will be completely helpless and you can simply punch them to death, saving ammo. Most of the Lost Souls here are in the BFG area, and there’s a few more you can kill before the Pain Elementals begin attacking. After that, make sure you use your BFG (or rocket launcher if you’re careful) on them as soon as possible because they will quickly surround you with Lost Souls.

I had kind of a sloppy run here, and I missed a few enemies in the optional area with the rising floors and supercharge. On the bright side, killing a Mancubus with a berserk punch is one of the coolest things you can do, so I’m still happy with this.
