Sonic CD's bosses are another thing that stands out. They get their own zones with only a short buildup, as opposed to being at the end of a full level. This is probably because they're much more elaborate fights than in the other Genesis games.
...well, not this one. The EGG-HVC-001, named after the Famicom's model number, is extremely easy, and I didn't even do the cheap strategy! You can stand behind it as it lowers and kill it instantly with three hits.
If you choose to fight it normally, the spring hands will prevent you from hitting it. Only when it prepares to charge forward will it pull them back enough for you to get some hits in.
A cool thing about the boss levels is they're always fought in the future, and which future depends on whether you've gotten a good future in Zones 1/2 beforehand. If you have all of the Time Stones, you'll get Good Futures for the rest of the game.
