Doom Map Talk #8:Bloody Garden (TNT Revilution)
With the Portal Facility behind us, Now its time to enter the final episode of TNT Revilution, The intermission notes that Hell has changed since we last visited in TNT Evilution when we entered Quarry, the demons have become smarter and have used the UAC's weaponry and technology to begin construction of a massive supercomputer for the Icon of Sin's memories and thoughts but now, We have to deal with a garden soaked bright red.
"Bloody Garden", Designed by "EraDrop" is a UAC facility that introduces the bloody techno-hell setting that the final episode keeps with it until Malignata, And it's...Whew hard as nails with Vanilla style no mods but again I make it look easy here, The entire facility is surrounded by blood that doesn't hurt us but it's a bit big and new players can get lost.
What stands out in Bloody Garden is the placement and overall pace of the map, Somewhat of a combination of mechanics from previous maps with huge amounts of High tier enemies, Bloody Garden hits like a truck, Our goal is to get all 3 keys and then locate the exit while having the entire map change and shift as we press switches and approach linedefs, The main area of catwalks alone changes several times and has the first Duo Spider Mastermind battle I've seen since Doom II's Map28 Spirit World.
Once we've gotten to the final area we warp to a area south of where we began, And the doors lower to reveal a tidal wave of monsters including Pinky Demons, Hell Knights, Revenants, Cacodemons, A arch-vile and a Cyberdemon, This overall last battle is a bit underwhelming because the monsters don't always spawn as correctly and I didn't use the secret arena to telefrag the 6 "decorative" Cyberdemon towers I didn't remember where I was supposed to go.
"Becoming A Machine", Composed by EraDrop for this map is one of the chilling and suspenseful tracks in TNT Revilution, It also gives a big edge to the map showcasing that this ISN'T normal hell, We're in a futuristic technologically advanced hell and we've got work to do to stop Hell from making anything nasty they could use against Earth, It may not be as impressive as "Across The Blood Sea", But I find it to be my absolute personal favorite TNT Revilution map for the challenge it gives.
