Note: there are some audio-mix issues in this one; trying to resolve them for the next episode. My regrets and apologies.
After laying off gaming for the whole week, it's Friday night and it's finally time to get my groove on. Back to the Switch, which I have not played on since getting my FIFA 18 addiction last month. The controls on Doom for Switch are unrefined; it feels a bit like Console Generation 6 controls, but I will admit I have not bothered to try and go in and calibrate them to my particular tastes. The controller, I'm using the Joycon Grip in this session, is also just too small for my hands. I know that I need the Pro Controller, and I have one, but I am forcing myself through the masochistic use of the JoyCon Grip because I have it and feel like therefore I must use it.
I realize now that Doom has some decent verticality to it, without getting as close to the platforming things that I don't like in Destiny 2. And while I still struggle a bit and have to strafe-aim more than I would like, Doom still feels right on the Switch. Metacritic declared Bethesda the most successful publisher of 2017, and I took that notion to task a bit. But I cannot deny that Bethesda did some interesting things with their properties.
