As much a I play games, there are always a set of classics that I have not gotten around to yet. They sit there, lurking in my backlog, eyes peering out at me from the darkness, full of loathing. Quite often it's the case that I try to get into one of these and it just doesn't do for me whatever it did for everyone else those many years ago. Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case with Mass Effect.
Released in November of 2007, I was just too busy playing Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, and Project Gotham Racing 4 to take a chance on a first-person RPG released by a dev studio that had just recently been acquired by EA. And so I never dipped my toe into the ME franchise until it came to PC. What I do love about what I have experienced so far is that it is not a JRPG. And therefore the story and gameplay mechanics are not overly complicated. As far as pacing and plotlines, so far I do not see anything that is smothered in pretentiousness or just abstracted for no reason.
