Like many of you, I too was ready to declare that I had lived the golden age of video games in the late 90’s and early 2000’s with Fallout, Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate 2, Arcanum, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines and so on and so forth. It’s not that there weren’t any cool games after that. It’s just that those particular titles that were released between 1997 and 2002 felt like peak gaming, like lightning in a bottle in some sense. And I guess it’s easier to face the prospect of adulthood (so to speak) with the feeling that… although you won’t have as much time to indulge in your favorite hobby as you used to, it won’t matter as much, because you were lucky enough to have lived in the golden age of games.
But then Dragon Age: Origins came out to make a strong simple statement. NO YOU HAVEN’T. The Witcher 3 which came out 6 years later and Baldur's Gate 3 which came out just last year might have shaken the gaming world for many. But to me, the last game to do that was Dragon Age: Origins. Hope you enjoy the review!
