Dragon Warrior III [NES] Playthrough #07, The Cave of Enticement: The Road to Romaly
This is video #07 in my Dragon Warrior III playthrough. From Reeve, it is now time for the party to visit the Cave of Enticement in the eastern section of the large island. Apparently, the cave has a travel door that will take the party elsewhere.
By the way, Angelo can equip the Chain Sickle, but the party won't be getting it for him. A better weapon will be available in the next town.
Along the way to the Cave of Enticement, the party comes across the Aliahan Shrine (time index 3:05). A man here tells the party to head on to the Cave of Enticement since they have the Magic Ball.
The Cave of Enticement is a short way to the north (time index 4:10). At the lake, the party has to make their way around to the north side of the lake, where a hole leads down to the first level of the basement.
On level B1 (time index 4:21), the way to the south is blocked. On one of the cracked tiles and facing the wall, the party has to use the Magic Ball to open the way. This lets them reach the down staircase.
Down on level B2 (time index 5:00), the floor is a bit of a maze. The party takes a winding path to the northern wall and then turns west to grab an Antidote Herb from the chest. Then, they go all the way east to the floor's northeast corner. Then they turn south along the eastern hall. When they reach the southeast corner, they turn west. When they can go north, they do so and then take the next passage to the west. A chest here contains the Magic Knife! A little farther north, the party turns west down the next passage and goes down the next staircase.
Down on level B3 (time index 7:32), there are three ways to go. The south and southeast passages lead to dead ends. After the party opens the door to the southwest, the west passage leads to the travel door that the party has been seeking.
The portal carries them away to the South Romaly Shrine (time index 10:05). Don't you find it a little excessive that the game requires the player to use the Thief's Key yet again to get out of the shrine?
Anyway, when the party climbs out to the surface, they find themselves on a peninsula in Romaly Kingdom. I'd say this area is a take-off on Italy. Right nearby is Romaly Castle (time index 10:34). The equipment and item shops are both in the west building. The weapon shop has the Iron Spear, a new weapon for Angelo the Pilgrim. There are also other upgrades that cannot be acquired quite yet.
When the party enters the castle's entrance hall (time index 13:17), the guard tells them that they are expected. Interesting.
On the second floor, the party finds the castle's throne room. The king has heard of Heorot's father, Ortega, and he asks the party to retrieve the Golden Crown from a thief named Kandar. Someone else tells the party about the Tower of Shanpane, which lies west of the village Kanave. As the party explores the castle, they learn that Kanave is north of Romaly. A jailbird in the northwest tower tells the party that Kandar is hiding out in the Tower of Shanpane and hiring accomplices. One guard in the southeast corridor warns the party against going east before they are ready.
In the northeast tower, the king's father expresses disapproval of his son's fun-loving ways.
The basement of the equipment and item shop houses the Monster Ring. Definitely a good way to waste Gold, in my opinion.
Anyway, it is now time to save up some cash for the new equipment in Romaly's shops.
Thanks for watching!
