I've really struggled with this boss fight. I came here with a +7 weapon after Pontiff and I was getting hit in the 2nd phase constantly. I decided to do Dancer and come back later, but 2nd phase was still extremely annoying and it was obviously a mistake on how I was approaching the fight. I had to look up for guides on the fight, and they were extremely helpful.

1- I did not realize that his face (Gwyndolin) takes way more damage than just smacking his back part.

2- Hanging around him at a short distance, rather than being aggressive and sticking up at his body, makes the fight less RNG as it prevents him from teleporting.

3- Baiting an attack before his transition delays his phase 2.

Those tips changed the tide for me, and I quickly got him after.
