Dyson Sphere Program - Dark Fog 003 - Initial Play to Blue Science

Yes, I wrote that I would leave the commentary for those more articulate and thoughtful than I am. Also that I'm going to be busy the next couple weeks. Well, pfui: here's my 2-cents anyways. (Alright, I'm kinda curious, so yeah I spent a bit over an hour of "real" play to try it out.)
We are running this game on normal mode, nothing extreme - I'll admit that I've never played Factorio/Satisfactory or other factory-simulation games. I'm obviously not used to combat in this game.
(My thought processes regarding factory games? Factorio: "Kinda cute. Not my thing." Satisfactory: "Cute. Not my thing." Dyson Sphere Program: "Very cu- YOU CAN BUILD A FREAKING MEGASTRUCTURE AROUND A SUN? MINE!")
These days, I would get off-planet ASAP. In this one we take our time and explore what the whole thing is about. Lots of new stuff and new mechanics to play with. Some examples:
* Power consumption for drone tasks is tremendously reduced. Personal speculation: the developers expect combat to suck down heaps more energy, so lets not punish building.
* Drones are too slow? Hold down the mouse-button over a building while the drones are laying down the belts. Icarus constructs that building quick-smart. Veeery handy once we get to a mall or the like.
* The Drive Engine technology upgrade uses an actual engine to research - which will be used in missiles later. Very appropriate.
* Wind turbines can be built on water - once we've researched Steel technology. Beeline it. That makes sooooo much space on the jumpstart planet for laying down fields of turbines.
* New fuels. 3x coal is 2.74MJ each, total roughly 8.1MJ. Energetic graphite is more compact and has just a hair more energy than the 2x coal required to create it. That new combustible unit - over 9MJ, significantly more compact and has more energy available than the original 3x coal. Looks worth it.
* Ammunition. Looks like we have a reason now to tap a whole lot of copper - it's always been a kind of "meh who cares" type of thing. Sure, we need it, yet we generally need about 7-8x as much iron. Mass gauss turrets, here we come.
So, we did a little building - defending - more building - all that good stuff. Not too hard to deal with at present. Will see.
