Dyson Sphere Program - Zen 051, Destruction at 6 FPS (OCD/Packrat Trigger Warning)
No voice.
Trigger warning for those with OCD/packrat mentality. (IE me.)
We have been struggling for some time with framerate (11-12 fps) and savefile size (730 megabytes). Admittedly a large part of this has been my habit of mining/refining everything, piling up 60k+ of resources - largely duplicated across multiple planets.
There have also been struggles with construction. The metabuild idea didn't work too well, thanks to the logistics habit of "chow down everything in ILS/PLS number 1, ignore 2 through 10". Even though 2 through 10 are chock-a-block with resources and idle, just waiting for someone to take their stuff away so they can process more resources.
It slows everything down.
This has gotten to the point of two choices:
1/ Abandon this save entirely.
2/ Rip down almost everything and attempt rebuilding with a different style.
Since I would like to get the current Dyson Spheres completed and do flythroughs through them, I've chosen #2. I am keeping the mall planets untouched, other things may go down the tubes - depending upon how ruthless I can force myself to be.
To show the pain I'm going through - you get to see 18 minutes of tearing down part of a planet, watching it all hit the ground, making certain that we have kept the most important parts before deleting the remains. Mostly resources.
Stuttering along at 6fps while shift-deleting belts is painful. I had to stop a couple of times. Dumping 100k of super-magnetic rings and deleting them was painful. You get the drift. This...hurts.
I am noticing an improvement. We are perhaps 20% of the way through the process and we are back up to 16-17fps. The savefile size has dropped from 730mb down to 530mb. Things no longer stutter at 6fps when shift-deleting belts.
Prognosis: Hopefully we can rebuild this savegame.
