Earthbound with some bullet hell: Atlas Wept- Chichuki Views
4It's that time again for another episode of Chichuki Views. This time around, we're checking out Atlas Wept. This game feels like it is trying to take inspiration from a lot of different games and putting them into new mechanics. For example, graphically the game looks like Earthbound as well as the battle screens where you fight all kinds of monsters. During the battles, enemies will attack you and their attacks feel like they're right our of Undertale. That being said, I enjoyed the writing for the game as it felt like there were several different story arcs going on at the same time. Something like that is ambitious and it felt like it worked.
However, there were some issues I had with Atlas Wept. There were times where I would try to walk around the environment and get caught on random things like trees. There would be plenty of room to maneuver too. There we're times where the colors of the environment made it tough to see what was going on.
During battles, there would be a timing system similar to Super Mario RPG where better timing means more attacks and damage. It was very difficult to time the basic attacks but the special attacks were easy in comparison. There was also a stun feature where you could stun an enemy and do more damage and keep the enemy from attacking. In theory that's a good idea but when your characters would do basic damage and that damage was enough to destroy, the stun feature seems pointless. That being said, the boss enemy designs were really cool and interesting.Fans of Earthbound should check out Atlas Wept since it feels like a homage to the classic game!
