''Easy A'' is a teen comedy film starring Emma Stone, Penn Badgley and Amanda Bynes that opened in U.S. theaters on September 17, 2010. The movie tells the story of teenager Olive Penderghast (played by Stone), a straight-arrow high school student who uses her school's rumor mill to try and become more popular. Olive starts a rumor about herself: that she has lost her virginity. What follows is a series of events very similar to those of the character Hester Prynne in the classic novel ''The Scarlet Letter'' (which Olive and her classmates are reading). ''Easy A'' was directed by Will Gluck. The movie also stars Dan Byrd, Thomas Haden Church, Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson, Cam Gigandet and Lisa Kudrow.

Reviews for ''Easy A'' began coming out before the film's release. Overall, reviews were favorable. ''Easy A'' garnered an 83 percent "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes' "Tomatometer" - the film scored a 72 out of 100 on Metacritic.com.

Of the critics who favorably reviewed ''Easy A,'' many cited the movie's fresh take on high school comedy movies. Kirk Honeycutt of ''The Hollywood Reporter'' called ''Easy A'' "a high school romp that turns a stale genre upside down with sly wit and sharp satire." Roger Moore of the ''Orlando Sentinel'' said the "ghost of John Hughes smiles upon Easy A, a film that freely and giddily borrows from and pays tribute to Hughes' famous Holy Trinity of '80s teen angst comedies." John Anderson of ''Variety'' calls ''Easy A'' a "high school morality fable" that recalls the the 1995 teen comedy ''Clueless,'' "a comedy of very contemporary ill manners drawn from classic literature, an immersion in the young-adult lexicon and a potentially career-making showcase for its lead actress, Emma Stone."

Bottom line: if you're a fan of the teen comedy genre, a la ''Clueless'' and ''10 Things I Hate About You,'' you may enjoy hitting the theater to see ''Easy A.''
