Elite for the BBC Micro by Acornsoft was a revolutionary game, introducing the home computer world to 3D graphics and what's more, an almost endless space exploration experience. It was, and remains, an immense piece of gaming history that made a firm mark on many a teenage mind during the mid 1980s. Released for the BBC Micro A/B and later the Acorn Electron by Acornsoft, it was soon converted to other formats, including the Sinclair Spectrum and Commodore 64. It amazes me still today, that it can run on these early 8 bit micros. The game was developed by Ian Bell and David Braben when they were in their early 20s and both at University, and was quickly snapped up by Acorn for release under their Acornsoft brand to entice home buyers to their powerful home micro.
