What are SX & DX Processors? (386SX,486SX) [Byte Size] | Nostalgia Nerd
1,628You might think that all the strange i5xxx and i7xxx processor names are a recent thing, but even back in the 80s and 90s, we had obscure naming for our central processing units. If you watched my last Byte Size video on the 8088 and 8086 chips then there should be no shocks in this short video about SX and DX processors. For the most part SX chips are just cut down versions of the original processors, either made to work in reduced bus size mother boards (i.e. a 286 16 bit board rather than a true 32 bit 386 board), whilst DX CPUs are the original processor with a DX slapped on the end to differentiate the two.
