Empire: Total War is a real time strategy game set in the 18th century. You play the role of a general leading land battles or an admiral in sea battles. It was released for Linux this week and, although it's a relatively old game, we can hope that new releases in the series can now be ported more easily.

The game itself works very well. I haven't tried the campaign mode yet, which is a turn-based strategy layer on top of the basic battle mechanics I demonstrate here.
