"The Substitute" is a new character replacing Sans from phases 9 and onwards. It is a background consciousness implanted in Sans by Gaster during phase 3 that not only allows him to take it over but also persists even upon the death of Sans himself.
This is part of a full-scale rework of EUC Last Breath 10.
