Giving business presentations and improving communication skills is very important for every professional. Especially if you are a consultant then you must know how to give a presentation and how to improve communication skills. Presentation skills take practice and you have to figure out over time how to make a good presentation. But there are some ways you can make this process easier for yourself.
In this video, I’ve covered my experience of making the first presentation at McKinsey and what I learned from it. You should try to practice and learn how to speak in front of other people. But before that, you should know the audience that you are speaking to. Without knowing the audience's expectations, you can’t give a good presentation or speech. If you don’t know how to give PowerPoint presentations then the first step would be to learn how to present information in a manner that makes the most sense to the audience.
If you wish to leave an impression or make an impression on the audience then it’s very important to keep your points concise and crisp. The shorter and crispier the information, the better. Presentations skills training will teach you the basics of making and sharing presentations but you have to work on it daily. Business presentations and business communication are a lot easier than we think. All you have to do is develop communication skills, develop confidence, and know what exactly to say in a given situation.
In this regard, the Mock Drills and Practice sessions consultants at McKinsey do before every client meeting is a great example. The most qualified business consultants working in one of the top firms of the world also put a great emphasis on practicing before they talk to their clients. Hope you like this series on communication and please let me know what other topics in this series you’d like me to cover.
