I headed down into an abandoned, open-pit mine to see if there were any exposed tunnels in the walls of the pit. Often when a mountain housing an old, abandoned mine is blasted apart to make an open-pit mine, some of the original underground tunnels survive the destruction and can still be carefully entered and explored.

The gold mine in this video was initially dug in the late 1890s and was a pretty decent operation. It closed up probably somewhere around 1940 or earlier. Later on, the claims were bought up by another mining company who then proceeded to blast the mountain to smithereens to make a deep, open-pit mine. Many of the original mine's workings obviously got destroyed in this destructive process. However, I was able to find an access point at the bottom of the open-pit mine that led into a drift tunnel with extensive stoping above it.
