Eyed and Zeek - Astalon: Tears of the Earth (Switch) Premiere Part 8
I'm telling you right now, you have to try Astalon: Tears of the Earth. This game impresses me in new ways every five minutes.

Astalon: Tears of the Earth is an 8-bit style Metroidvania for the Nintendo Switch (and other platforms like PC) that I am absolutely loving. The pixel art is fantastic, the sounds and music totally knock, and I'm having an absolute blast.
The story follows three heroes. Algus, the somewhat old (?) wizard, Kyuli the rogue, and Arias the swordsman. The three heroes enter an ominous structure known as The Tower of Serpents in order to find and eliminate the source of a mysterious poison that has been plaguing their village. Not the same Algus from Final Fantasy Tactics, thankfully.
Along the way, they encounter a powerful nefarious villain named The Black Knight, who seems to serve a higher evil.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The three heroes are slain by The Black Knight, but because of a pact made by Algus with the Titan of Death, Epimetheus, they are brought back to life. Arias and Kyuli have little memory of their slaughter at the hands of the evil villain The Black Knight.
One cool and unique aspect about this game is that all three heroes have a shared HP, and when you die, Epimetheus resurrects you. But you can also spend your collected Soul Orbs to purchase upgrades and new abilities.
In this episode, we meet Zeek, the merchant. He gives us the Cyclops Idol which allows us to enter the Cyclops Den. He seeks a valuable crown left behind by a former prince named Prince Alx. Inside the den, our party must defeat all of the Cyclopes (which apparently is the plural of Cyclops) before we can find the crown.
I also buff Arias a little bit, and I buy the Insight 2 cutscene, which shows Malus and Lydia (the Black Knight's parents) give their child to the leader of a Cult, which implies that the child was a sacrifice to... the Titans? Not 1000% clear but obviously his childhood was not normal.
I also buy the Last Stand ability for Arias which increases his defense by 50% while he is below 15% HP. It implies that he uses his shield, but in fact, he does not. I purchase the Arcanist ability for Algus, which increases the size of his projectiles by 30%. It's actually very helpful for fighting the Cyclopes because I no longer need to jump to hit them. Plus it's just a good ability.
Also at one point I climb a ladder. OH and I find the Lunarian Bow for Kyuli which gives her attacks a vertical blast upon impact, and it can activate certain statue faces.
And I collected the Cloak of Levitation for Algus. It allows him to descend more slowly when falling. It also means he can run on top of blocks that would normally crumble but they won't crumble. As long as you keep moving.
I also get confused by fake spikes at one point. Standing on them doesn't hurt? Is that a glitch or does that serve a purpose?
Anyway, watch me play Astalon: Tears of the Earth! It's awesome. Made by LABSworks and Dangen Entertainment.
