Eyes Wide Shut: Hidden In Plain Sight (Chapter 15: CARLOTTA & GISELLE)
0In Eyes Wide Shut, Kubrick uses the name “Carlotta Junior” to evoke themes of freedom and identity, linking Helena to “Carlotta” as a free woman or spirit, echoing Carlotta Grisi’s ballet Giselle. In Giselle, a betrayed peasant girl is brought back by supernatural forces, mirroring Helena’s doll and its symbolism of reflection and repetition. Kubrick also nods to early avant-garde influences and ghostly symbolism through artwork, Dadaist ideas, and characters like Carlotta, which adds layers of meaning to Eyes Wide Shut’s narrative.
This is a passion project of mine, inspired by an essay by Nik Dobrinsky. I’ve incorporated voices from FakeYou.com, created by Vegito1089, and added some artistic touches to make it more engaging—such as having a fictional HAL-9000 narrate the story, which will evolve as the series progresses.
