Eyes Wide Shut: Hidden In Plain Sight (Chapter 11: PERIPHERALITY & PARALLELISM)
Eyes Wide Shut is filled with parallelism and subtle peripheral details that continuously reinforce the film’s dreamlike quality. Kubrick plays with repetition, with set pieces and props appearing and reappearing in various forms. Characters and objects often shift in location, creating a sense of circularity and surrealism as Bill traverses an imagined NYC. Symbolic elements like black-and-white imagery, recurring storefronts, and flower motifs tie scenes together, deepening the sense of Bill being trapped in a looping, nightmarish reality, where even the smallest details contribute to the broader themes of fantasy and illusion.
This is a passion project of mine, inspired by an essay by Nik Dobrinsky. I’ve incorporated voices from FakeYou.com, created by Vegito1089, and added some artistic touches to make it more engaging—such as having a fictional HAL-9000 narrate the story, which will evolve as the series progresses. I hope there are no copyright issues, as I have no intention of monetizing this for personal gain. All rights belong to their original owners, including the essay by Nik Dobrinsky, which I’ve used as a basis for this narrative.
