F 13 and other Vintage Locomotives at the Ferrymead Railway (ft. Brisbane Tram 236 ~ 21/10/2023 (HD)
This was a very big day, mostly involving the Ferrymead Railway and their steam locomotive 'F 13'. She was celebrating 150 years since she first entered service (although she was actually built in 1872), and is now the oldest working steam locomotive in New Zealand. Besides the green 0-6-0ST, a pair of 'D' class 2-4-0 tank engines were also running, with D 16 being a visitor from the Pleasant Point Railway.
Before heading over to the heritage line near the Port Hills, I filmed two KiwiRail services. The first was a freight train with DXR 8007 up front, and the second was the TranzAlpine passenger train calling at Rolleston (with DXCs 5212 and 5229 on the point).
There's a fantastic variety of motive power on show at the Ferrymead Railway and Heritage Park, with some of the (in my opinion) most unique catches including the following:
ex-Brisbane tram No. 236
C 864
D 16
DC 4876
DG 772
'Ganz Mavag' EM 1373 / ET 3373
EO 45
W 192
WD 357
Some of those engines, such as the DC and EO, are future exhibits for the National Railway Museum of New Zealand.
