The F-14A came out last week, and I was eager to try it as soon as the update was available. At the moment, the F-14 is the module I spend the most time flying in DCS. I enjoy the commentary that Jester makes throughout the flight, and flying the Tomcat feels like being in the Top Gun movie. the F-14A released last week comes with completely new sounds and some external model fixes, but, most notably, it is a new airframe with the TF-30 engines instead of the F-100s. The TF-30s are modeled very well in the sim by Heatblur including all of the quirks, but the first noticeable thing is the reduced engine power that they offer compared to the engines on the F-14B.
In this mission, my F-14A is tasked with providing CAP over airspace in Syria and to defeat enemy MiG-29s heading directly for friendly airspace. The new AIM54 guidance makes this BVR fight harder than it would be in previous patches as the enemy AI are now very good at breaking its lock.
