*– VIDEO INTRODUCTION –*
This playthrough shows:
• a no-crash run of the game modes "Skill Level 1", "Skill Level 2" and "Skill Level 3".
Races will continue indefinitely on the fifth circuit, regardless of how many laps have been completed. The extended time decreases with each lap, eventually forcing a game over.
The timestamps for each game mode and its circuits can be found at the bottom of the video description box.
*– GAME OVERVIEW –*
_F1 Race_ for the Famicom is a Formula One racer. It was developed by Nintendo Research & Development No. 2 (Nintendo R&D2) with HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. The game was released in Japan on November 2, 1984.
• Satoru Iwata – who later became Nintendo's fourth president – designed and programmed _F1 Race._
◦ It was developed based on Iwata's personal love of racing games, which would influence later Nintendo projects such as _F-Zero (1990)_ and _Super Mario Kart (スーパーマリオカート)_ (1992).
◦ The game is very similar to Namco's (now Bandai Namco Entertainment) arcade (AC) hit _Pole Position (ポールポジション)_ (1982).
• The gameplay of _F1 Race_ allows the player to drive a Formula One car on a variety of tracks that are set in a natural environment.
◦ To advance to the next circuit, you must complete two laps within the time limit. A time extension is granted after the completion of the first lap. (And on the fifth track, the race never ends.)
◦ Points are awarded based on the distance traveled.
◦ Cars have a generic two-speed manual transmission (or a "LOW" and a "HI" setting) that controls their speed.
◦ Contact with another car or objects on the side of the road results in a crash.
• _F1 Race_ led to the _Famicom Grand Prix (ファミコングランプリ)_ series with _Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race (ファミコングランプリ F1レース)_ (1987) and _Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally (ファミコングランプリII 3Dホットラリー)_ (1988).
◦ A pseudo-sequel called _F*1 Race (F★1レース)_ was released for the Nintendo Game Boy (GB) in 1990.
