Factorio Play 49 - Rocket Launch FINALE
Here is the final episode of Factorio!
We pick up right after the last episode, and begin to power up our new sub-factory to produce the parts needed to make the rocket parts.
For a while, things seem to go well, but eventually we discover that we are running low on the light oil we are using to make the solid fuel we are converting into rocket fuel. So to fix this I disconnect some of the chemical factories converting the light oil into petroleum gas. This seems to correct the issue.
A bit later I notice we are running low on steel. I go examine our steel production and see that not all the furnaces are running due to a lack of ore, so I convert the yellow conveyor belt supplying them to a red fast conveyor belt. This allows all of the electric furnaces to run. Additionally, I add a requester chest to the belt before our original coal powered steel production to help produce a bit more steel.
A bit later I find that we are running out of blue and red circuits. I look into it and determine that this is a result of a lack of plastic, so I examine the oil production again. I hook some of the light oil to petroleum gas chemical plants back up, however, I notice that not all of our refineries are operating. It turns out that they way I hooked up most of the new refineries, the heavy oil was only connected to a single heavy oil to light oil conversion chemical plant. That plant can only process heavy oil so fast, so when the pipe backed up, the refineries couldn't run to produce the other oil types. I correct this by also hooking up the heavy oil pipe to the existing heavy oil storage tanks. This immediately empties the heavy oil pipe and allows all the refineries to run and produce all the oil products.
It takes almost an hour. but we produce the rocket. As the silo opens, and the rocket raises to launch position, the long handed inserter takes the satellite and puts in into the cargo slot of the rocket. With that, everything is ready!
I click the launch button, and the rocket heads skyward. As it leaves the screen, the end game screen appears, letting us know that we took just over 42 hours to launch the rocket with a satellite and let our civilization we are still alive.
Factorio is still in early access, and is being improved all the time. That has been mention of extending the ending so that you have to build a completely automated space platform that has to survive wave of attacks for a period of time. I really like this game and I'll probably have another play through of the game when they change the ending.
If you like what you've seen, try out the game. Even though it is still being developed, it has a lot of gameplay and is very complete, including support for multiplayer. If you want even more (or maybe less) challenge, there are many mods already available that can new ore types and and or changes existing recipes, and add new machines and processes or can make certain things easier if you want that.
