Factorio Play 46 - Building the Rocket Silo
I'm back with more Factorio for you!
This episode we start by building an assembler that will build a rocket slio for us. We use a yellow assembler which can craft things with five different materials, as that is how many rocket silos needs. On top of that, it needs one thousand of the concrete and steel bars, two hundred of the processing units and electric engines, and one hundred pipes! We are already making those items, so we have requester chests requesting those items so that our logistics robots will gather and supply them.
I set up a circuit network so that once a rocket silo is created, we turn off the smart inserters feeding it materials so that a second one won't be made (at least until we remove the rocket silo from the chest).
So our robots start gathering the materials, and I check on the production of our electric engines. It turns out that we have two assemblers for them, but only one can provide output to a logistics chest, so I also hook up the second assembler so it can also fill a logistics chest so we can provide engines to the rocket silo faster.
I then take a look at the blue circuit production. I find that we are not producing red circuits that quickly. This seems to be because only one of our chemical factories for plastic bars is running, because we have little coal coming in. I follow the coal belt and fine that the mining drills providing the coal have used up most of the coal. Some of that patch is also used to fuel the trains, so I redirect some of that back to the plastic production. Additionally I set up mining drills on another small coal patch to also supply coal coal to the plastic production.
With the coal supply fixed, plastic production doesn't pick up that much, and I realize that we are also low on petroleum gas. Checking out oil supply, I find that it is near zero. Apparent we are using oil faster than out train can provide it as most of our wells have basically dried up.
I pick out a small oil field to the west of out norther iron mining locations, and set off to make a rail line there. I set up most of a rail line and bring power and roboports out to the new oil field in the res of the episode, but I run out of materials at the end of the episode and have to go back to the factory to pick up more at the end of the episode to pick up more, so that I can finish the rail line and set up the pump jacks and oil barreling operation.
So that is what we will do in the next episode!
