Minecraft Snapshot 1.12 and Glazed Terracotta Patterns
Yesterday, the first Minecraft 1.12 snapshot was released. This contains tweaks to the current wool, glass and dyed hardened clay colors. It also contains three new block types, Glazed Terracotta blocks, made by smelting dyed hardened clay, concrete powder, made from alternating sand and gravel around a dye, and concrete blocks, made by getting concrete powder wet when placed in the world. All of the new block come in 16 colors.
The Glazed Terracotta Blocks are what this video focuses on. They have unique, colorful textures, and like logs, retain the orientation that they were placed in. This allows them to be tiled in interesting patterns. I show off many of the patterns that can be made with these new blocks, but other patterns are possible. Some of the textures have diagonal symmetry, but others do not, and so they tile in more complex patterns.
These block are a change in look for Minecraft, but they will make interesting patterns for floors, walls, and ceilings for larger buildings and palaces!
